Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds push for local districts to control AEA funding

Parents came together to discuss proposed changes to Iowa Area Education Agencies (AEA) programs in schools.

Governor Kim Reynolds’s new proposal would allow programs to provide general education, media and special education services, but it would give local school districts full control over the funding. The proposal would also give districts the option of eliminating the programs in their district. Parents say they don’t want to fix something that isn’t broken.

The AEA bill failed a House subcommittee but did pass a Senate subcommittee, so it’s not close to a full floor vote yet.
